Instapaper + Dropbox + River2 = Coolness
Elasticthreads, the guy who asked for both Instapaper support and Dropbox support in River2, now asks that the two features be combined. An obvious desirable thing. And if you update river2.root, you can have the feature now.
Demo
Here’s my Dropbox-based river, with Instapaper icons. ![]()
How to update
1. Launch the OPML Editor.
2. Bring river2.root to the front.
3. Choose Update Front Tool from the Tools menu.
4. Click OK to the confirmation.
How to use
First, be sure that the Dropbox feature is enabled.
Second, be sure the Instapaper feature is also enabled.
Then if you view your River you’ll see that there are now Instapaper icons next to most items. If you click an icon, you are transported to the Instapaper site, where it confirms your username and password. Click on OK and then the story is added to your list of unread items. Click the Back button in your browser a couple of times to get back to reading your river.
Hey Dave,
The River + Dropbox + Instapaper are really coming together beautifully.
The only thing is the Instapaper integration seems to be messing with the output to static, dropbox page. When I have Instapaper turned on, the static page only gets one news item and no instapaper love.
I’ve seen this too. Try scanning again (click the Scan link at the top of the page in the dynamic site). There’s some kind of problem in there, not sure what.
Tried scanning, re-scanning, updating OPML/River2, re-installing river2, got an update this morning, tried that.
Still the same problem.
Can you describe the problem carefully — as if you were submitting a real bug report. Maybe even include a screen shot.
The problem: When the instapaper feature is turned on, the static page built by River2 in my Dropbox gets cut off at only 1 news item (which doesn’t have an instapaper link). When instapaper linking is turned off the problem goes away and the static page gets outputted properly.
Here’s a screenshot, of the issue: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4002/4464823791_0a5ff373a5_b.jpg
A zip of that and a copy of the static page generated:

The question is what’s in the database, not in the HTML.
Somehow the rendering of the page is stopping after the first item. We have to figure out why.
Dave,
With the little digging I’ve done– just 5 min or so, db seems fine. It seems to be related to an issue authenticating to Instapaper that kills the static rendering. I hope to look at it some more in the next couple of days.
